New Features in MASTA 5.2

Version 5.2 of MASTA builds on the successes of previous versions and includes both new features, and improvements & additions to existing functionality.

Automatic Gear Micro-Geometry OptimisationMicro Geometry Optimisation

The micro geometry of cylindrical gears can be automatically optimised for a specified load case

Features & benefits:

  • Minimise gear flank edge stresses
  • View tooth contact and geometry reports
  • Simple strip or FE/Hertzian based Loaded Tooth Contact Analysis

Parametric Study ToolParametric Study Tool

With the parametric study tool you can run 1 or 2 dimensional parametric studies for Power Flow, System Deflection & Advanced System Deflection. The tool provides functionality to analyse the impact of varying component properties within a design for a particular load case and analysis time.

Features & benefits:

  • Analyse the impact of varying component properties – bearing preload, clearances, temperatures
  • 1 or 2 dimensional studies – bearing life, gear stresses, shaft fatigue

Design Improvements

Shaft profile editing using imported CAD:

  • Import a 2D CAD drawing (.dxf/.dwg) to facilitate shaft profle editing

Rigid connection design & rating:

  • Addition of spline design to DIN 5480, JIS B 1603 & SAE/ANSI B92.1
  • Inclusion of interference fit design & sizing to DIN 7190 – calculate joint pressure, interference & permitted transferable torque for interference fit joints

Gear rating & materials:

  • Cylindrical gear rating:
- DIN 3990 – for pitting, bending & scuffing
- AGMA 2101-D04
  • Inclusion of shaft & gear materials as specified in EN10083, ASTM A48, ASTM A536, GB/T 3077 & JIS G 4051, 4052, 4104, 4105

Analysis Enhancements

MASTA 5.2 includes various enhancements to existing analysis features including:

  • Enhanced dynamic response results for Gear Whine Analysis
  • Improved accuracy of cylindrical gear mesh analysis
  • Inclusion of gear twist effects in misalignment calculations
  • System deflection gear mesh stiffness calculation improvements
  • Enhancements to gear macro geometry optimisation
  • Root Stress results in Advanced System Deflection with Advanced LTCA
