We service all sectors of the transmission and driveline industries including, Automotive, EV+ HEV, Heavy Auto, Off Road, Energy, Aerospace, Marine and Rail.
SMT headquarters based in Nottingham, UK, is where the Software Development, Engineering, Technical, Business and Financial teams are based.
A dedicated facility is also based in the UK which houses our transmission testing facility and vehicle testing laboratory.
We also have a recently opened office in Milton Keynes to service the motorsport industry and localised customers.
SMT connect with experts and industry professionals worldwide, so there is also opportunity for travel!
To help you find out more about what it’s like to work in a leading global company, we asked Stephanie Marshall, Transmission Engineer, to take us through a typical day at SMT what she loves about working here!
“I love the variety of the work here at SMT.
As a consultation service we get to interact with various stages within the design process.
Some days I can be working on a very early concept design attempting to prove feasibility and other days I can be helping to optimise a design to minimise noise and it will be almost finalised for manufacture.
As no two projects are ever alike, every day is something slightly different with a new challenge.
For example, today I am working on creating a tool that will assist the design team with sizing an oil pump.
It’s very challenging and involves a lot of research to understand the theory as well as the technical challenge of programming the tool but it’s very rewarding work when you get a breakthrough!”
– Stephanie Marshall, Transmission Engineer, SMT
We offer a range of graduate opportunities across our software and engineering teams and training is provided on the job as part of a structured introduction to SMT’s MASTA software and transmission theory.
Role progression and flexibility from training manuals to non-crucial project work to paid customer project work – all come with support from senior colleagues and engineering professionals.
There are also many opportunities for additional training experiences with off-site training on numerous topics as well as the opportunity to visit clients, attend international trade shows and conferences to researching and conducting highly technical design and analysis work – for some of the worlds renowned and prestigious companies as well as emerging businesses in their industries.
We’re passionate about driving projects forward, have a genuine interest in mechanical systems and want to work with positive working relationships with customers and colleagues alike, so do get in touch!
